LABS welcomes students of all ages and from every corner of the world to learn Dutch in our school in Antwerp. With our academic program focusing on results and motivation whilst providing an array of educational and social activities, our students achieve results in a fast and fun way. A large percentage of our students apply their new language skills by taking the official CNaVT exam to proof their knowledge of Dutch to schools, universities and employers.Taking an immersion course is so much more than just improving your language skills. You will meet new friends, discover a city, a region, a country and a culture.
Studenten van alle leeftijden en nationaliteiten zijn bij ons welkom om op een snelle en leuke manier Nederlands te leren. Wij helpen je met je motivatie, coachen je door je leerproces en nemen je mee op pad in de stad om het leven van een local te ontdekken. Veel van onze studenten leggen ook het officieel examen Nederlands af, om hun kennis van de taal te bewijzen op school of bij een werkgever. Een taalbad is veel meer dan een alleen een cursus. Je maakt nieuwe vrienden, ontdekt een stad en een regio, een land en een cultuur.
Your arrival
Your accommodation. Please contact your host family on Wednesday before your arrival at the latest. Not contacting your host family in time results in a bad first impression.
Je aankomst
Je accommodatie. Gelieve je gastgezin ten laatste op de woensdag voor je aankomst te contacteren. Je gastgezin niet op tijd contacteren laat een erg slechte eerste indruk na.
What do I need to bring? In class we often work online so feel free to bring your own laptop, smart phone or tablet and ear plugs. Of course, you can borrow one from the school but most students prefer to work on their own device. You'll have your own locker so you can always safely store your device at school.
Wat moet ik meebrengen? Tijdens de lessen werken we vaak online dus breng gerust je eigen laptop, smart phone of tablet en oortjes mee. Je kan natuurlijk ook een toestel van de school lenen maar de meeste studenten werken liefst op hun eigen toestel. Je hebt op school je eigen locker dus je kan al je spullen altijd veilig opbergen.
On Monday, we expect you to arrive at the school at 9:30am, Kipdorp 38, 2000 Antwerpen. On your first day we will get to know you and you will get to know us, the school and the city. We will also test your level in speaking, writing, grammar and vocabulary. You will also meet the other students and have your first classes.
You will receive your course materials and student card. If you want to have a specific photo on your student card, please send it to school@la-bs.be before your arrival. If not, we'll take a photo on your arrival day.
The basic schedule for your classes is 9:30 am - 3pm every weekday.
Op maandag verwachten we je op school om 9u30, op Kipdorp 38, 2000 Antwerpen. Op je eerste dag leren wij jou kennen en leer jij ons, de school en de stad kennen. We testen dan ook je niveau op het vlak van spreken, schrijven, grammatica en woordenschat en je ontmoet de andere studenten. Die eerste dag ontmoet je de andere studenten en start je meteen met je lessen. Je krijgt je lesmateriaal en je studentenkaart. Als je graag een specifieke foto op je studentenkaart wil, stuur die dan voor je aankomst naar school@la-bs.be. Zoniet, nemen we gewoon een foto van jou op je eerste dag.
Het standaard uurrooster is 9u30 tot 15u, elke weekdag.

Install the MOODLE app. App store. Google Play. Connect to labsantwerpen.moodlecloud.com
Your username is firstnamelastname, the password is labs. You'll be immediately asked to choose a personal password.
Go to the course GROEPSLESSEN and feel free to start the INTAKE - DAG 1

Je gebruikersnaam is voornaamfamilienaam, het wachtwoord is labs. Wanneer je inlogt, moet je onmiddellijk een persoonlijk wachtwoord kiezen.

Usefull apps
Nuttige apps
Bancontact/Payconiq If you want to book an activity with the school, you can pay cash or with the Payconic/Bancontact app. You can't pay by bank card. The Bancontact/Payconiq app is also very useful when splitting up expenses amongst friends.
Voor de activiteiten op school kan je cash of met deze app betalen én hij is ook heel erg handig om snel geld over te schrijven naar vrienden als jullie samen op stap zijn.
Whatsapp We communicate with our students about courses, activities, student jobs and random news, using WhatsApp. It is part of our social life and you'll get used to chatting in Dutch.
We kletsen online heel wat af met de studenten, ook na de lessen: over lessen, activiteiten, studentenjobs of gewoon grappige dingen. Zo leer je net als een echte local vlot chatten in het Nederlands.

Moodle We use the Moodle platform for our online exercises, you'll get your login on your first day and you'll keep it for another 6 months after finishing your course.
Voor onze online oefeningen gebruiken we Moodle en je vindt er ook al ons lesmateriaal, tot 6 maanden na je cursus.
De Lijn If you're staying in a host family, you'll probably be commuting and you can not only look up all information but also buy your tickets with this app. We strongly recommend to buy your travel pass or tickets online before your arrival in Antwerp to avoid waiting an hour or more in queue.
Wie bij een gastgezin verblijft, neemt de bus of de tram om naar school te komen. Deze app geeft je alle informatie en je kan er ook je tickets mee kopen. We raden je ten stelligste aan om je tickets of abonnement online te kopen voor je naar Antwerpen komt om de ellenlange wachtrijen te vermijden.
Lingoclip This is the perfect app to relax, learn and discover music in Dutch (any many other languages by the way).
Met deze app kun je op een heerlijk ontspannen manier Nederlandstalige (en andere) muziek leren kennen en je luistervaardigheid trainen.
VeloAntwerpen Wanna live like a local? Rent a bike!
Echte locals hebben een Velo-abonnement zodat ze overal en altijd een fiets ter beschikking hebben.
Travel & transfer
Transfer service
Arriving at a busy airport or train station in another city can be confusing. The school offers a transfer service to your accommodation for an additional fee.
Arriving by train
If you arrive at Antwerp’s Central Station you can take the train, bus, subway or tram to your homestay.
Arriving by plane
Brussels Airport is located 50 km away from the school so a taxi is very expensive (about 80€ to get to the city centre).
We suggest one of the following:
- Take the airport bus directly to the city centre (next to Antwerp Central Station). It takes about 50 minutes and costs €10,00.
- Take the train from the airport to Antwerp Central Station. You need to switch trains in the railway station of Brussels North. The journey takes about 75 minutes in total to get to the city centre and costs €9,45.
Arrival at the school
The school is located in the centre of Antwerp. The school can be reached with several trams and busses stopping at:
MEIR for the lines 3, 5, 9, 15
GROENPLAATS for the lines 180, 181, 182, 183, 22
MEIRBRUG for the line 7
SINT-JACOB for the lines 10, 11, 24, 12
You can also walk to the school from bus stop ROOSEVELTPLAATS (5 min. or lines 10/11) or from CENTRAL STATION (10 min or lines 9/15).
Coming to Antwerp by car - traffic in Antwerp
Antwerp isn’t an easy city when it comes to traffic and the current road works are making it even worse.
Therefore we strongly recommend all of our customers and visitors to use the public transportation system as much as possible to come to Antwerp and to use the city bikes and the public transportation to move around in the city centre.

It is very expensive to park your car in the streets. The parking lots in the neighbourhood are a much better option. Go to www.parkereninantwerpen.be to find information about parking in Antwerp.
